The Ziggurat: Viridian Shroud
The Ziggurat is a solo dungeon crawler with a 60-90 min playtime. Featuring an emergent narrative of sword and sorcery pulp fiction guided by a choice of Hero and Epic Quest. Simple dice combat and skill check mechanics combined with innovative card play provides for an interesting decision space.
Evokes the freedom of a solo RPG session without the creative fatigue.
The Quest defines the escapade, variations in setup, and your Hero’s final objective. Randomised dungeon regions, denizens, loot and encounters create a rogue-lite experience and vast variability for each playthrough.
In all, a vainglorious effort to touch on the nostalgia of childhood daydreams where the likes of Elric, Conan and the Grey Mouser may have walked the decadent environs of a Dying Earth.
Progress
After several years of development and playtesting, I’m getting close to having something I’m almost happy with. Still have not decided whether I’ll pitch to publishers or self-publish, although I’m leaning toward the latter.
If all is well I should be pushing out a Gamecrafter built “pretty prototype” for blind playtesting in August/September 2024. Then based on feedback I’ll consider next steps.

Fullasagoog (ie. here!) is the best place for up to date information, but a quick summary of useful links follow:
- Ziggurat Rules (Living Google Document)
- Video of Playthroughs (getting a bit long in the tooth, but you will get the gist)
- BGG Listing (Not as much info as here)
